The main farming enterprise is a pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd, which was established in 2007. A native breed to the area, there were some outstanding herds in the area at Candacraig and Buchaam in the 1960’s and the ambition is to develop a first class herd at Glenbuchat.
To establish the herd 48 high calibre females were bought privately from the Tegsnose, Hardiesmill, Idvies, Wedderlie and Rawburn herds. Additional females have since been bought from the dispersal of the Dacre herd and from Spittalshore. There are currently two stock bulls – Idvies Edward and Deveron Latimer who was purchased for £14,000 as a 14 month old.
Deveron Latimer has an impressive pedigree – he is the son of 30,000 guinea Netherton Figo and heifer Deveron Lady, a half sister to both 2006 Aberdeen Angus show champion Deveron Kankara and yearling heifer champion at the 2006 Black Beauty Bonanza, Deveron Elize. Deveron Latimer is a prize-winner himself, winning the senior bull calf class at the Scottish Winter Fair at Ingliston in 2007 and taking the reserve bull calf championship at the Black Beauty Bonanza at Thainstone in January 2008.
Bulls will be prepared periodically for auction, although there will also be private sales.
